I have not visited but the first movie I saw in a movie theater as a child was Bridge Over the River Kwai. Have seen it many times since and it has been a significant impression so glad to see the real bridge. Thank you.

The film has made the region famous and the war made it infamous. This bridge is a replacement. Soon after the allies blew up the bridge it was rebuilt by bringing down a bridge that was taken from Asia (I think). That was also blown up by the Allies.
This part of the river is a party place with floating restaurants and clubs which is at odds with all the memorials, war graves and its history.
