I fully understand the mantra and I totally get it. But that does not mean I don’t have the right to feel frustrated when I come across a photo opportunity and I do not have a physical camera on me.
This happened this morning. I went for an early(ish) walk to avoid the heat and the farmer has bailed his hay. The landscape in front of me was picturequese and quientensally English but I was conscious I didn’t take a camera.
For a fraction of a second I was frustrated but then decided to have faith in my Google Pixel 3.
I may not have had the level of control I’d get from my “real cameras” but I managed to take some shots I really like.
I’ve returned and imported them into Lightroom and have two photos I really like from this morning’s walk.
The sun was starting to break through the clouds and the light made for a dramatic sky over the landscape.
I’ve given this one an Ilford HP5 treatment to emphasis the texture of the farm and the sky. The panorama was created in camera.
So it’s true, I have to admit it, the best camera is the one you have with you.
