Registered for my first 10K Run…

Regular readers of my blog will know I started running at the end of May 2012 just because I thought I would give it a go and wanted to improve my general fitness.

As I write this I am 7 weeks into my training program and am very happy with my progress so far (you can read all about it here).

Anyway as an incentive to me and as a generally nice thing to do (as I am a nice chap – you know that), I thought I would register for my first run and do it for charity.

The MoRunning run is taking place in Greenwich at the end of November and simply by entering I have donated to the Movember Prostate Cancer charity.

As this is my first run of any distance I thought I would give myself further incentive to finish my first 10K by running for The Alzheimer's Society.

I have picked this charity, as there is a history of dementia and Alzheimer's in my family.

I do not know if you have experienced seeing a love one suffer from this awful disease but it is truly dreadful. They quickly lose contact with who they are, who their friends and family are. The disease deprives sufferers of function, memory and even the basic skill set and abilities.

I am still haunted by the visit to the hospital when I went to see my grand mother and she no longer recognised me. That whole 20 years of her memory had been wiped clean by Alzheimer's and she was a shadow of her former self. She sadly passed away confused, upset, distressed and a different person to the one we all knew and loved.

I never want to see anyone I love go through this again and this is why I am supporting The Alzheimer's Society.

I have set up a Just Giving sponsorship page where you can leave me a donation: Please donate!

I would be very grateful if you could donate as much as you can as a moral boost for me on this grand new adventure of mine into the world of running. Of course your donation will help to support all the hard work The Alzheimer's Society undertake to look after patients, carers, friends and family.

If you are in the UK please remember to Gift Aid your donation so that the charity can receive a little bit more money from your donation.

Many many thanks x
