Fostering the Metronome

Thanks to a certain individual I have been introduced to two great new musical acts.

The first is Foster the People who are an American band who sound anything but. There sound is fresh, organic and above all not manufactured. If I had to pigeon-hole them then I would say they are a cross of Blur, Empire of the Sun and the Go Team! and I feel that’s a particularly good mix.

This is the video for one of my favourite tracks “Helena Beat

The original English Rivera posterI love their debut album “Torches” and recommend you have a listen.

I got so into Torches that I didn’t really give Metronomy much of a listen. I apologise to them as they are a very talented group who hail from my part of the country. Their debut album “The English Rivera” is a nod to Devon and the particular name given to the resorts on the south coast.

I particularly love the fact that they have sought permission to use the original marketing graphics on their album sleeve – a very poignant and touching nod to an era that takes me back to being a child.

Enjoy their Duran Duran inspired video for “The Bay“.

I wish both Foster the People and Metronomy all the success in the world – they really do deserve it.

  1. It is weird seeing Torbay being portrayed in such a good light. The reality isn’t quite so glamorous, but Metronomy’s The Bay good fun.
