Ever since we’ve been visiting Vancouver, we’ve always said it would be amazing to fly on a floatplane, but we’ve never managed to do it.
Until today.
We booked a lake experience flight from Tofino, flying up into the mountains. We were due to spend 40 minutes on a secluded beach before flying back.
It was the hottest September day on record for Tofino, but unfortunately, the high winds made it impossible for us to safely manoeuvre to the shoreline when we landed on the lake.
Chris, our pilot, kindly attempted to take us up to find another spot, but unfortunately, the weather was against us. As a result, he decided to take us on an extended excursion along the coast instead.
What an experience!
The plane was tiny, enough room for 3 passengers. Richard up front and me in the bench behind.
I loved it so much. We got to experience the take off and landing on water – no way as scary or bumpy as I expected.
The bumpy mountain flight was a bit of a shock. I was doing okay, but unfortunately, the turbulence got the better of me, and I ended up feeling unwell on the return flight.
That did not deter me from taking photos though and I love the shots I got today.
Stunning. Just stunning. Or as they say around here, beautiful.
A day we won’t ever forget.

We would like to express our gratitude to the wonderful crew at Tofino Air for providing us with such a beautiful experience.
