Leica Sofort 2

Why did I buy a Leica Sofort 2? A couple of reasons:

I missed out on the original Leica Sofort and was thinking of buying one when this was announced
It’s great to have an instant camera and I love my Polaroid Go but it has its drawbacks (I love my Polaroid SX-70 also but the film is expensive)
The Leica enables you to take photographs without forcing you to print them
It also allows you to transfer any photo via the Leica Fotos app and print it – so it’s doubles as a pocket sized printer

It does have some drawbacks:

You cannot seem to wirelessly transfer photos from the Fotos app to your phone unless you have printed them (to get all the photos off the camera, you have to remove the micro-sd card and import them to your computer/phone). If anyone has a work-around for this, please let me know!
The screen is clear but not bright which means you don’t see the full image in lowlight or shadow.
Depending on which pocket I store the camera, it can be too easy to catch the “shutter lever” (which is what you flip to print your photos). Not an issue if you remember to switch the camera off, but if you forget, you accidentally print a photo when you remove it and catch the shutter lever.

I didn’t buy this to replace any of my cameras (well maybe the Polaroid Go), therefore I didn’t expect much and to be honest it has surprised me by being a half decent point and shoot camera.

It’s also nice to carry something you can print from.

On our recent trip to New York I went up to the viewing platform at The Edge (I went alone as Richard does not like heights). A lady asked if I would like her to take some photos of me. As a thank you, I took a photo of her and printed it out for her as a memento.

Whilst at Anglesey Abbey yesterday I decided to try it with the l landscape, flora and fauna. Some of the shots were disappointing but some were surprising.

I especially like the black and white photos which were made possible by one of the inbuilt presets.

The Leica Sofort 2 won’t replace any of my cameras, but it is a fun addition to my camera bag (whilst in New York I only took the Sofort 2 and my iPhone 15 Pro Max).
