We had family visit this weekend and took them to Ely to check out the Cathedral.
It’s an astonishing building with some fantastic and unique features.
Whilst there I did the usual, took out my iPhone 15 Pro Max to take some photos.
I am constantly amazed by the camera on the phone and yesterday was blown away by the zoom capabilities.
The roof of Ely Cathedral is 66m high.
Whilst taking some shots I decided to see what detail I could get from the ornate ceiling. I was not disappointed…
This is the wide angle view of the inside of the cathedral near the alter…

This gives and idea of the height and scale.
Zoom in a bit with the 35mm lens (I think) and you get this…

As you can see there is a lot of detail but not quite close enough to see all of the craftsmanship.
When you deploy the telephoto lens, you get this…

Wow!
Remember this is a tiny telephoto lens on a phone. With no lighting, no tripod. Completely handheld and shot like a casual snap shot.
The detail is incredible. From the paintwork to the gilding and being able to see the individual planks of wood that make up the ceiling.
I find this truly remarkable.
It’s a joy to have such a capable camera in your pocket with no need for additional lenses or equipment.
I find it amazing how far camera technology has progressed.
