Process.

Following my post yesterday, I thought I’d share this minor edit from another snap I caught at the Tate Modern yesterday.

This is the original:

It’s the nice shot but the it needs some correcting.

I’ll start by saying it’s a jpeg from my Pixel 2 so there isn’t the dynamic range of a RAW file to allow full post processing.

Anyway there’s enough to play with and this is what I see:

• There is no main focal point and there’s a lot going on
• The person on the left with the rucksack takes the attention away from the little girl in the foreground
• The colours are bright but a bit flat
• The back of the turbine hall is dark and full of shadows which could be brightened
• It’s not level

So what did I do in post production?

• I cropped in to focus on the little girl in the foreground and the large ball in the background
• I also cropped out the guy with the rucksack
• I aligned the photo to make sure it was level
• I boosted the exposure
• I brightened the shadows
• I brought up the saturation of the yellows, the Cyan’s and the blues

And that’s it.

I edited the photo with Lightroom Mobile on my Pixel 2.
