As you know I am raising money for Alzheimer’s Society by running my first 10K in November.
As it is World Alzheimer’s Day it would me a great deal to me, the patients and carers of Alzheimer’s and Dementia if you could sponsor me for such a great cause.
To put this into context new research in the UK shows:
- Half of people (50 per cent) say they would find it hard to talk about dementia to a friend or family member they thought might have it
- A third (33 per cent) say that personal concerns (such as fear of upsetting someone or feeling awkward or anxious) would discourage them from talking about dementia or memory loss with a friend or relative
- That nearly two-thirds (63 per cent) of people would not be confident telling the difference between the signs of dementia and the normal signs of ageing
In the UK Dementia affects 1 in 14 people over the age of 65 and 1 in 6 over the age of 80. However, dementia is not restricted to older people: in the UK, there are over 17,000 people under the age of 65 with dementia.
With the recent news that drug companies are cutting funding for finding a cure/treatment for Alzheimer’s it is more important than ever to raise awareness and funding to help eradicate this awful disease.
