I didn't have much interest in sports at school or since but I did use to enjoy sprinting, athletics and swimming. A new interest in running changed all this though.
I have always been slim to average build but noticed as I progress through my thirties that I was looking a bit more fuller in the face. I never worried about it though especially when I see photos of old school friends on Facebook. The majority look like they're through their 40's already and for some of them it would seem becoming parents hasn't been kind to them… (although at least one of the guys I went to school with is as fit as he was back then…)
Anyway I have been quite active during the holiday and for once Richard and I have taken time to chill out, relax, do as little as possible and truly unwind.
Part of this relaxed routine for me has included at least one swim of 12 laps in the pool and on three days I have been to the gym to keep up my running on the dreadmill.
Following my post gym shower I noticed how my body shape has changed due to the exercise routine I have taken on. As is typical my weight increased when I started running and now I am back to where I was before at 71kg but I think I am much more lean as a result.

It's also helped me mentally as well as physically as I feel much brighter, invigorated and have less stress – especially following each run. It’s true that (once you have the right shoes) you can end each run pain-free and feeling great. If you're in severe pain the next day you're doing something wrong.
I push myself during my runs so I know I don't just plod along an even the odd episode with my asthma cannot counteract all the good feeling and will to want to continue.
I am amazed how I can carry pain and continue through this when I run and nearly all of it has subsided once I have finished my cool down and stretches.
Of course I have the added incentive to run the MoRunning 10k in November and have already raised over £1,00 for Alzheimer's Society. A feat that I am very proud of. Of course you can make me even prouder by sponsoring me 🙂 I am conscious I am yet to run it but am confident (if not a little apprehensive) I will finish the run.
I cannot recommend running enough and it's something we can all do. Start easy like I did and I'm sure you'll grow to like it and get hooked too.
