Surrealism, Sun, South Bank and Cock(tails!)

London
Saturday I spent in town enjoying the much overdue summer sun. Having taken a stroll around Covent Garden I grabbed some lunch and headed across the river, taking in the sights and trying to avoid the crowds on the South Bank.

I then made my way along the Thames with my trusty PEN in hand snapping whatever caught my eye.

I soon made my way to the Tate Modern where I met up with some friends and we sampled the delights of the Miro exhibition. Lots of conversation and consternation was had whilst viewing this surrealist work but I have to say I did enjoy it.

I prefer Miros works around the time of “Women with flock of birds” – the busy, complicated geometric forms which fill the page and make you study the forms to truly understand the picture. Some of the larger canvases although vast and mostly void of too much content were impressive, I was still drawn back to the smaller complex works.

Following the exhibition we headed off to Bar @ 1 in Soho where we all made the most of the cocktails and the happy hour offer. I had a minor diversion before meeting the others and was amazed how quickly they had polished off the first three rounds. I had some catching up to do and Tom Collins came to my rescue!

An inebriated walk lead us to the other side of Bond Street and Christopher Place where we enjoyed a very tasty and delightful (if a little rowdy) meal at Auberge.

A wonderful way to spend a Saturday… Long may the sun continue to shine.

Will no one take my flyers?
