We didn’t see in the new year… I am a traditionalist and even though I do feel that New Year is overrated I do like to see it in – especially as we live a stones throw from the Abbey and can enjoy the celebrations from the comfort of our living room.
New Years Eve followed our trip home to catch up with our folks and as ever we found ourselves driving from pillar to post to catch up with everyone. Richard covered more miles than me as he had the car but we still managed approximately 165 miles in the four days we were home (not including the 260 miles each way to get there and back!).
That said it was a lovely break and you can tell from the video I posted the other day, it was fun too.
It feels like I have been off work longer than a fortnight but it also feels like a lot of it was wasted – this was primarily due to the snow and wintry weather we had to endure before Christmas. Thankfully this has all gone now (although it is trying to snow here in St Albans once again).
I think we were both surprised by the amount of snow that had settled in Devon (as you can see from this photo of Dartmoor). Thankfully the milder climate at home meant the snow defrosted very quickly.
It’s safe to say we have eaten far too much this break – to the point where I think Richard and I are sick and tired of the sight of food. We don’t go overboard and we ensure we don’t over buy as it’s just the two of us but between all the trips to family and friends etc we have managed to consume quite a bit. In fact I was getting to the point that any meal was making me uncomfortable.
I would go to the gym but it’ll be busy with fatties trying to shed weight as they fulfil their new years resolutions for the next couple of days (until they give up). I have never really had the will power nor the time if I am honest. I do enjoy the gym but there has to be an incentive for me to do it and as I go to the one at the office there really is no incentive!
Thanks to the English Bank Holiday system today is another day off so we don’t head into the office until tomorrow. I am not sure who is going to be more shocked, us or Brandy! I feel pretty sure her delicate routine has been disturbed by use being home so long (and the pre-Christmas snow chaos which meant we worked from home).
I guess the news will be full of doom and gloom which will just add to the inevitable slow, boring month that is January. Judging by the sales I really am not sure if people truly understand what is about to hit them with the rise in VAT and all the public spending cuts. Most countries brought this on themselves through greed so now is the time where we will have to suck it in and get on with it… That or we go the same way as Greece or Ireland (and who wants that?).
At least I know I have my birthday to look forward to at the beginning of the February – as ever I am not sure how or if I want to celebrate it…
Hopefully 2011 will be an exciting year for us as we are intending on moving. It’s been on the cards for a while and this looks like the time to do it. I am sure some would say we’re mad doing it now but to be honest, when is the right time to move house?
Hopefully things may pick up at work as I had some interesting conversations before I left for Christmas – one can only hope that this time it’s sincere and things really do progress for me.
Well the tree and the decorations are packed away. Our clothes are ironed. Back to the boring every day routine tomorrow. I just hope 2011 ticks along at a more manageable pace and that the fun outweighs the work.
I made some interesting new friends in 2010 and I intend on continuing this trend by getting out there and enjoying life.
I don’t make resolutions but that really should be my mantra for the year (resolutions are for people with no will power and for anti smoking companies to make lots of money at the beginning of the year).
I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year period and wish you the very best for 2011. Thanks for following me during 2010 – I hope you find my blog entries, photos, tweets, candy and videos of interest through 2011.
