I have said this before…

I have said this before, many times before, but boy oh boy what a bloody week!

This year seemed to start at the running blocks and there has been absolutely no let up. I am the tough end of a very big project which currently has too many chiefs controlling it but hopefully I can see light at the end of the tunnel and that’s not some form of early cataract!

There has been some light in this week as our tickets to Janelle Monae has arrived today – I am so excited to see her live. I honestly have not been this excited since the first time I saw Prince live.

It seems that quite a few people I know or have connected with online are going so there will be a good group… I am wondering if I can convince them all to turn up wearing at least black and white (Janelle has a thing for this and lack of colour an patterns); I guess I’d be pushing it to try and get them to all wear tuxedo’s and bow ties 🙂

Seriosuly though I think this is going to be an excellent concert. Janelle performed on Later with Jools Holland and even with a sore throat she managed to belt out the notes. I’ve only seen one performance so far (“Faster”) – the other is broadcast tonight.

It does finally seem that the British press have cottoned onto Janelle and have started to take notice. I’m tired of talking about someone that most people have no clue about in the UK (and yes I mean my sister-in-law!). Of course the usual comparisons are being drawn; Bowie, Prince, George Clinton… Can Janelle not be who she is and simply enjoy her music etc for what it is? Why should every one always be labelled as such?

This weekend looks like a similar one to next week and that’s fine with me – to be honest I want to concentrate as much time as I can on my painting as I want to ensure I devote enough attention to it.

Last weekend our quiet Sunday was ruined by our Samsung flat panel TV developing a pixel defect which rendered it basically unwatchable. At less than 18 months old I doubt we’ll ever buy a Samsung TV again – pile of crap. We now own a shiny new Sony Bravia which is completely internet enabled and out of the box, a breeze to use.

Something else that is a breeze to work is our new Apple TV – similar functionality to the Internet enabled services in the TV but much quicker and a better interface. Everything in the house can connect to it and with our server(s) we have plenty of files and TV to watch.

I think we’ll be using it to keep abreast of the latest developments in this season of The Big Bang Theory, 30 Rock, Modern Family and Brothers and Sisters (I think we’ve stopped watching British TV programmes as they’re basically shit).

I don’t usually talk about iPhone games but have found myself hooked on Cut the Rope. Unlike Angry Birds etc this is actually very entertaining, you can choose how you progress and the level of concentration and deduction is just about perfect – as is the control mechanism. I often find it difficult to find a game on the iPhone that is playable on the train. Look Up is a prime example – I’d have someone’s eye out playing that!

Monday night Richard and I have a evening of culture as I have managed to secure some tickets to the unveiling of Al Weiwei’s installation in the Turbine Hall of the Tate Modern as part of the Unilever Series. For those that don’t know, Al Weiwei was responsible for the creation of the Birds Nest Stadium in Bejing. The invite has a clue to the installation but it’s quite vague! (It’s a large photo of a sunflower seed).

I’m hoping I can take my camera in and get some snaps with my PEN – watch this space!

That’s enough of an update for now. Whatever you’re doing, wherever you are, have a great weekend.

Thanks for your comment!
