Qype: Netley Hall Estates in Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury

We stayed at Netley as we had planned a weekend n Shropshire. The cottage we picked was Preens Cottage.

After some confusion about how to get onto the estate (no one told us we had to go up a drive and buzz to be let through some electric gates), we checked in after being greeted by a very polite young lady who showed me around the cottage.

The period cottages are very quaint and form part of an old stable block. The modern Walled Garden cottages are a more modern quadrangle of holiday lets.

There is plenty of amenities including the trout lake, walks, and a football pitch. You’re also a mile away from Dorrington which enables you to have a gentle stroll into the village for an excellent meal at the Horsehoes Inn.

The cottage was very modern inside but it had lots of period touches. Both bedrooms were a decent size but the table in the kitchen only had two chairs – a bot of an oversight in a cottage that sleeps four.

It was comfortable and I imagine in the winter with the open fire lit, very cosy. (There is the choice of central heating if you prefer!)

The kitchen was very well equipped with a cooker, toaster, coffee machine, dishwasher, microwave etc but there weren’t many welcoming touches. Having driven 3 – 4 hours to get there a pint of milk and some tea bags would have been a nice welcoming touch. Thankfully we packed such provisions but still bought washing up liquid and hand wash for the bathroom

Such small touches can annoy and it’s always nice to know up front whether you have to provide this yourself. We were told about the linen etc on payment but that was it.

I don’t want to sound too negative though as the cottage merely served as a base for the four of us to explore Shropshire.

You didn’t need to worry about parking though as there was a large tarmac car park in front of the cottages (which you only saw from the kitchen windows!)
