The Classrooms has not been open long and is situated in an odd spot on the corner or Tudor Street in an old office complex.
The interior is very modern with black and gold the predominant theme in the bar with black and white differentiating the restaurant.
We visited on a Wednesday lunchtime and the place was deserted.
After checking in at reception we were led down a fairly ordinary corridor before entering the side of the bar into the restaurant. This felt like an odd diversion.
We were seated in a large sofa area by the window. Probably to make the public see it was open. For an hour and a half we were the only ones there.
Even with it being so quiet the staff seemed inattentive and lurked in the shadows.
A couple friends ordered from the pre fix menu which at £15 seemed like good value but the choice was a little poor.
The rest of us ordered from the normal menu and that’s when you notice the prices! An average of £17 for a course means this place is not cheap!
The food was well presented but the portions were tiny. The food looked great but not very tasty.
I had a main of tenderloin of pork with rhubarb chutney and fondant potatoes with apple. I couldn’t taste the apple. The meal was Luke warm at best and took a millisecond to consume.
Dessert was better but again not earth shattering.
The forced service charge was steep considering but we paid it as it was on account.
The drinks were better presented etc than the food but £9 for a Mojito and £30 for a cocktail jug was very steep (even for the city)
Ultimately the Classrooms tries to cater to the hip city crowd but they obviously don’t but it as it was empty and had no atmosphere whatsoever.
I want to like this place but even with a lively group such as ours there were gaps in the conversation due to the lack of atmosphere etc.
If you have money to burn, a bland palate and want a restaurant all to yourself, by all means visit!
